STRATEGIC THINKING IN THE CORPORATE CONSULTING

Maybe being a professor of Strategic Management at various business schools and management teams for over 10 years I consider the importance of developing strategic thinking of managers. Also as a consultant, sometimes as a strategic consultant, but as a financial consultant, legal or operations, I have always worried about teaching thinking.

I think there is little point providing strategic consulting or any like instructions for the company to put them into practice. There is no point making the customer dependent on the consultant and lose their capacity to engage with their own reality waiting for external solutions.

So claims a close coaching consulting executive. A consultation carried out with the client in a process in which he takes center stage. So the consultants have to do something more to be facilitators. We have to help our customers learn to think, to analyze the business environment, your company and himself as a manager.

The role of the manager is making decisions and gain the commitment of his team. To make decisions we must analyze many things, there is much information to synthesize and draw conclusions. The manager has to find the right direction and have to get the entire organization to follow this course.

Managers usually have that potential. However they are immersed in the maelstrom of the day to day and also these days are knock down by the crisis. Not a good situation for a manager stops to think and reflect. But nothing is as bad if you do not stop to think how to act appropriately. The situation is never as critical as now.

Too many managers are too contaminated for its own reality. In addition, this reality has changed with the crisis, competitive challenges are different and the market has changed. But the director, any person has difficulty seeing their own reality with new eyes.

A good consultant should help the manager to see things differently. Need to talk to the consultant on the new reality and new opportunities and threats. A good consultant should Logar that the manager “looking up” over the day.

Why it is so useless to offer a consultancy report type, type recipes, such solutions. What is needed is to harness the consultancy also as a way to develop the strategic thinking of managers and entrepreneurs.

My career in this way, even before the crisis, has shown me that those who have known better also think they are having a better time, both corporate and personal level.
